My machine is slowing down!

Hi. I have a G4 1.5 GHz with 512 MB SdRAM Power book running OS 10.3.9. I've noticed lately that it's slowing down a little and apps are taking a little longer to open (the beach ball is spending more time on the screen!). What are the causes and how is this fixed?

    Try running Onyx and doing a deep clean and running the cron scripts also check the HD for any errors which can cause issues.

    And get as many icons off the desktop as you can. I noticed that speeds up OS X a lot.
