Camera and SD card problems

I have a new iMac 24" Intel machine. It will not recognize my Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera when I connect it via the supplied USB cable. When I tried to download the photos using a card reader, the card was completely trashed. On the phone with Sandisk tech support, we tried formatting it a number of ways; nothing worked. So they sent me a new card, took a bunch of pictures, hooked up the camera, nothing happened, used the card reader -- trashed again. Again, not able to format the card either in the camera, on my Mac, or on a windows computer. Any ideas what is going on here? Thanks....

    Sounds a bit like the card reader is faulty.



    Are you taking the same reader to the PC you're trying the re-format on?



    Have you tried formatting on another reader, on a different Mac?
