RAM on iMacs

I am going to get a 24" iMac soon and I plan on replacing the 512MB Ram with 1GB RAM later. Can I give those 512MB sticks to my brother who is getting a 17" iMac?

    erm... doesnt the 24" come with 1 gig Ram.

    yea you can all the core 2 duo imacs use the same RAM

    I'm quite sure about this. Someone correct me if not the case.

    I was talking about 512MB sticks and then upgrading to 1GB sticks (so a total of 2GB) ^_^

    Cool. With your plan you will have one 512mb stick left over though. 8)

    Also, the 17" 2.0ghz comes with 1gb RAM. I wouldn't get the 17" 1.83ghz

    because that has only integrated graphics.



    Easiest is if you buy the 24" iMac customised with 2gb RAM from Apple, and then

    your brother buys the 17" 2.0ghz which comes with 1gb RAM and a decent video card.



    This way all the RAM is covered by Apple in the 1 year or 1+2 AppleCare 3 year warranty,

    plus Apple RAM is generally very very high quality.

    I can only confirm that Core 2 Duo iMac Ram works in a Core Duo Mini, 'cos that's what I'm using but it makes sense to me since all those machine have the 667 fsbs.

    Interesting - What about the RAM of the Core2Duo iMac in a Rev.B G5 iMac? Would this also be possible?

    If the iMac G5 has an iSight built-in, then this model *theoretically* can use the Core2Duo iMac RAM. The iSight iMac G5 takes 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM. The Core2Duo iMac RAM runs at DDR2 667mhz but it will run at 533mhz in the iSight iMac G5.



    Real world, not exactly sure if it can be done/ has been done...
