It seems that Puretracks has decided to offer downloads of music from independant labels as mp3s (i.e. no longer in a DRMed format). Before anyone gets too excited about this, it seems that you can only download music from them if you are a windows user (I'm guessing that they have an iTunes type program that handles the downloads which is a windows only app). They say that "[they] are definitely working on [availability for the Mac]," whatever that means.

The thing that I think is interesting about this is that perhaps this sort of posturing from other music download sites will force Apple to do the same with their catalogue. I realise that it has been argued that by having DRM on all songs on iTS, Apple is telling the industry that "everybody has the same deal," but it still seems absurd that tracks would be DRMed when the artists / labels involved could care less about DRM.
