Preview Changed Behaviour?

I have just upgraded to a new mac book pro, and have noticed a strange change in the way that the Preview app behaves:
I have a series of around 70 jpeg files labelled 0.jpg, 1.jpg, 2.jpg... etc. Previously when I selected all these files and then double clicked they would open up in a single preview window, with the thumbnails arranged in numerical order (as they are in the finder).
Now when I do the same thing, the thumbnails are ordered seemingly in random order, making it impossible to step through the images in sequence. Is this a deliberate change in the way that preview behaves?
