POP Mail over shared Internet connection

My current setup is this:

I have my DSL modem and AirPort in a faraway room. My PowerBook has an AirPort card so I'm online wirelessly from it.

I also have an old PowerMac G4 without an AirPort card. It's connected to the PowerBook with an Ethernet cable. The PowerBook is sharing its Internet connection over the Ethernet, so the PowerMac is online in that way.

Now, web, iChat, and everything else I've tried runs just fine - however, Mail does not. I'm unable to connect to any POP or SMTP servers. Mail won't do it, its Connection Doctor won't do it, attempting to telnet pop.gmail.com times out.

I haven't set up anything out of the ordinary regarding the firewalls on either computer, and as far as I can tell, everything is the way it should be. But, the PowerMac just can't seem to do mail over the shared connection.

My questions are:

- Has anyone else had this problem?

- Am I forgetting something obvious?

- Give me something I could try, at least.

Thanks!
