hey everyone,

i have an old computer which i want to take the ATA Hard Drive out of and put it into an external enclosure. Now, i was wondering if i could then hook that up with my Linksys router and have that hard drive accessible over the network. or can i only do that with airport extreme? could i even take my hard drive out of this old computer and put it in an enclosure for it to work with Mac OS X on my macbook? my linksys router is this one.

Look for an enclosure with a network interface (NAS)... Unless you want to hook it up to a computer and share it over the network like that.

    ok thanks.

another question: i cant find an enclosure that just supports ATA, i keep finding SATA and PATA and stuff like that, does it matter? the best i can find out about my drive is that it's an

ST3200822A ATA device. also, am i right to assume it's 3.5"?

    thanks again

EDIT: i found this one on Radio Shack.com would it work?

Generally if it's an old hard drive, it's PATA. It matters.

And that should work, but I've never heard of the company before...

i mean its not too old, its from a computer i bought in 2003. its from an HP Pavilion a562n.

i want to be able to put it on the network, but it's not top priority. how much should an enclosure cost? i dont want to make a bad purchase. what are some good brands? should it be firewire or usb?

haha sorry for so many questions.
