Vi: a unix text editor. Very powerful... but can be confusing to use for the novice.

It has a copying function whereby you can copy the contents of highlighted text to a specific key combination. You can do this repeatedly for different key combinations.

For example, imagine selecting text and assigning it to Command T.

Then selecting more text and assigning it to Command Y.

Then selecting more text and assigning it to Command I.

To paste... you would simply use the key combination of Command Shift Y for example.

Wasn't sure how to explain it... hope the above explains well enough.

Is there a similar functionality available in Macs OS?

If not is therea 3rd party tool|

Thanks.

I don't know of a way to assign them to user defined keystrokes (especially since most keystrokes are all ready assigned in most apps...), but what you're asking for is a multi-level clipboard. Take a gander at iClip for a really slick implementation. Handles anything you can copy: text, audio, images, etc.

Agree Kickaha, I use iClip routinely now. This will do what you're asking for, OM2. Not nearly as good as ClipMate on Wintels but the best clipboard extender I've tried so far on the Mac. Version 4 with improvements is supposed to be released any day now. Give the trial version a go.
