MacMini (Intel Core 2 Duo): no sound -- "no output devices found"
I've searched through the forums and found several (older) posts about this), but didn't really come across any solutions. Here's my story:
MacMini had OSX reinstalled (to wipe hard drive).
All Updates (firmware, software, etc) have been installed.
There is no start-up chime.
In System Preferences> Sound, it says "no output devices found".
The volume slider is greyed-out.
I've tried:
Resetting PRAM
Checking/repairing permissions
Unplugging everything for a while then restarting
Launching Garage Band (get the error: CoreAudio: Selected Driver not found (-10202)
Still... no sound.
I know this computer used to hae sound -- before I reinstalled OSX (Tiger).
Is this fixable, or does it (gasp) need to be physically serviced?

Excellent Suggestion -- reseting the System Management Controller did it!
Thanks!
