I'm waiting for new hardware. Working at an Apple Specialist means that getting Leopard when it comes is not a problem for me, so I'm not going to wait for that one.

    Dear donebylee & Friends

I'm surprised by the results so far. I figured almost all of us were waiting on new Mac Pros and CS3.

    Sincerely,

    Jaddie

I wanted to explain my "I'm not waiting for anything" vote. (I hope its not a secret ballot!)

Unfortunately, I can't just up and buy a new Mac every time it would be cool. My 20" iMac is about a year old--its gotta last another year or two as my top machine. Then, as I have been doing it lately, I will get a laptop (or some variation of the mobile computer since everyone says I will want a tabletMac) that will leapfrog the desktop and be my top machine.

I have a buying cycle that can be influenced to some extent by the hardware/software developments, but only to a limited extent because of financial constraints.

Course, I bought that dSLR that didnt fit into my Laptop/Desktop hardware cycle, and now I think I will have to start a Lens/Body cycle too...

    Jaddie,

My vote was for hardware & CS 3, but apparently Leopard has a huge demand built up behind it as well. Personally, unless there is something in Leopard that makes CS 3 much better, I would prefer to buy an updated/refreshed Mac Pro with 10.4.9 for stability reasons.

Although I wouldn't pass on a new Mac Pro with Leopard if it was announced as shipping about the same time as CS 3.

If I were in your position I wouldn't be buying either.

But for those of us who have been putting off buying a new system, I was wondering what the criteria were.

Ha ha, I know the feeling. I just bought an image stablised lens for my Canon, so that might push the Mac mini back a few months. My mini is two years old though, so it is in need of an upgrade. I want to start shooting RAW but I can't run Aperture on my G4 mini.

I'll pull the trigger when decent Mini specs come out preloaded with leopard. I am not too fussed about it getting pushed back until June though - my bank account is definitely relieved!

I'm not waiting for anything... except money

I just need my cash reserve to build up a bit so I can afford to invest.

Wow, I am really surprised at the results so far.

I really didn't think that so many were waiting for Leopard & new hardware. I guess a lot of you are thinking that the whole line is due for a refresh and that it will come on or about the same time that Leopard does.

    Waiting for:
    • New Mac Pro [purchase triggered on release or after NAB, whichever comes first]

    • New iMac [purchase triggered on release or after WWDC, whichever comes first]

I will purchase one of each. Probably the 20" imac and the quad core mac pro unless octa-core is not outrageously expensive.

No worries about paying for the leopard upgrade here, its a small % of the hardware purchases I'm planning.

Hi donebylee, I've been a potential switcher for over a year. Unfortunately Apple doesn't offer any desktop systems that interest me so I went ahead and built myself a C2D workstation using Windows. But I do want a new laptop. The MacBook's screen is too small for my aging eyesight but that rumored 15" MacBook would do the trick. I'm one of those weirdos who prefer integrated graphics (in laptops) because they consume less power while providing all the 2D/3D performance I need. Since I've waited this long I might as well wait for Leopard as well.

i voted for leopard and new hardware. seeing as i'm going to be going to college next year, i won't have a lot of spare cash to be spending, so i'd like to get a macbook either pro or not pro ( not sure yet ) with leopard and new hard ware so there's no need to upgrade which will save me lots.

I voted for CS3 as there wasn't a choice for what I really am waiting for: CS3 and 10.5.3. The only hardware that I might be possibly interested in is a widescreen iPod, but that items seemly will appear much later rather than sooner.

My trigger is also budget. However, I'm also not really sure which way I want to go.

I've sold my 12" iBook which I've had for around 5 years, coincidentally my 1st Mac (I've been a PC user for 17 years, and is also my profession).

Now however I have no desire to ever buy a PC again, and am looking to make a total switch. The options I'm considering are:

1/. Mac Mini - once it gets an upgrade to C2D. This will then sit under my HDTV where I will then backup my DVD's to an external HD. Never had an HTPC before and this option REALLY appeals to me. Gets expenisve quickly tho by bumping the RAM to 2gb

2/. Macbook - Leopard. This would be to replace my iBook. Potentially thinking about having on my desk once I've gotten rid of my PC and connected to a TFT. Apple BT keyboard and mouse (also for use with Mini)

    OPTION

3/. 24" iMac - Leopard/Re-design. This is ALOT more expensive, and is it really a better buy than the MacBook with TFT combo. This is a real puzzler.

I WANT all three, but there's no way I can stretch to that. Having options 1 and 2 is going to stretch the cash flow as it is !!

It seems that it takes a little time before I can buy my dream... :P

Wow, overwhelming majority for Leopard & new hardware.

I'm glad I own stock in Apple. Between this pent up demand and the iPhone, I think we're going to see one of the best year's ever.

Actually I am waiting for CS3 and Leopard.

Since CS3 is announced and will be available around April 20th, I choose Leopard because we don't know when it will arrive but I don't expect it in less than 3 weeks.
