Any news about the speed of the software?

Since the CS2 package photoshop, illustrator and inddesign have been INCREDIBLY slow and RAM hungry. We are talking about startup times of 0.5 to 1 minute on top notch systems!!

And this is software that does not do anything better than for example photoshop 5.0 or illustrator 9.0.

It should simply be illegal to realse software upgrades that are worse than the existing ones!

I'm really looking forward to CS3, since i heard somewhere that they should have focused on speed issues this time.....

Word is that CS3 is much more tightly coded and gets around the buffering problems that make CS1 and CS2 so slow.

Table styles is probably a good feature, although it's not a huge timesaver. What I'd really like to see in InDesign is text synchronization and improved table of contents features.

What I'm really curious about in CS3 is the added value of Photoshop Extended over standard Photoshop. It adds a fair amount of coin to the price tag, so if I'm going to spring for it, it better be damn impressive. At this point, I'm not convinced it's worth it. As far as I can tell from reading the specs, Photoshop Extended is just normal Photoshop with a few 3rd rate 3D features included. I would like to see for myself.

I think I'll be giving my sister a call soon (she's still in college). Standard should work fine for me. I'm not really enamored with PS Extended. The features are cool, but they don't make my workflow any better or faster.

Photoshop Extended also enables painting on video and exporting back to video editing tools; also has Image Staking and filtering, which was the coolest part of the on-line demo Adobe did. They took frames from a video of traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. When stacked and a median filter applied, magically all the cars vanished reveling an empty bridge. You can do this manually in the current Photoshop but it's a manual process.

Here's an article on the process

Is it worth the extra price? You decided.

I saw their live demo online when they were doing it (and they had some technical difficulties, resulting in a roughly 1/2 hour delay), and the only thing I thought was total gimmick was the "animation" tool in PS where you can instantly create "bones" for animation on any image (they demoed a guy kicking something, and his kick was re-animated). This would have very limited use, from what I could tell. Many other things about the upgrade looked pretty exciting... especially the "live color" in Illustrator feature.
