Macbook 2.0 Ghz- Black or White?
I am a student looking for a laptop for basic online and word stuff, plus some light to moderate recording. I have heard both sides of the debate: black shows wear and grease, white shows dirt. I personally am attracted to the black model just for looks, but if the white will serve me better, I'd be glad to get a white. Also, had anyone had any issues with Apple Refurbs? I would rather spend 200 dollars less and get a slightly used machine.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi There,
In your case I would go for the white entry model (1.83 GHz) you actually save about 500 dollars versus the black one and you will be able to do all the basic online and word stuff. If you do some benchmarking you will realize, very fast, that most of the PCs on the market are running on 1.6 GHz vs the 1.83, 2.0 and 2.13 from Apple. I would only upgrade the memory from 512mb to 1 GB.

the other day i went to a futureshop and i checked out the macbooks and the macbook pros, and imacs, and i was very disipointed with the macbooks. they felt very cheap. i mean if you want something pretty cheap with a windows os on it i guess you could get the white macbook, but going to the store and touching it made me change my mind, and i'm planning on getting the 17 inch mbp now.

At first I had the same feeling when saw it in a local Mac Store. I started to try it and my opinion changed 180°. It is more powerful than most PCs available and looks really cool; feels really good; works good; fantastic image quality; really multitasking...u.s.o.. Obviously I did buy one (MacBook black) .so this is a satisfied customer (now a fan) opinion. BTW if you want a portable with real battery life (5 hours working) it is only delivered by MacBooks.
Macs should not be black.
on the contrary, they should make m ore black macs. black macbook pro would be awesome.

eww
back to the original post: if you like the macbook, get the middle model, thats the one i have. its not that much more than the base model and it had 20 GB more in the Hard Drive and twice the RAM. either way, its a great buy, but the middle model gives the most "bang for the buck".
edit: i forgot the mention you get the benefit of burning DVDs with the 1299$ model; whereas with the 1099$ model, you can only burn CDs and i've had my macbook for like 4 months, and it doesn't show like any dirt.
Now having admitted that - the MBP is an awesome machine but my original reason for the purchase was a notebook that was easy to travel with and not something that will call attention to itself. As I re-evaluate my purchase I realize that the black MacBook would have been more suitable for my needs and it seems the more I look at the black one the more I like it. It's light weight, will easily fit in my digital photography bag, and the black color doesn't stand out. Every time I break out the MBP its a people magnate!
The good news is that I plan to convert totally over to Mac this year - I love it!
