Macworld is great. I got a 3-year subscription to Mac|Life for $8.00 on eBay.

The problem is... if you spend any time reading online (AppleInsider, for example)... EVRYTHING in the magazine is old news by the time you read it there.

You may be happier with a real book.

I used to read MacFormat. I liked the writing style, lack of (too many) adverts, and review policies.

This was a few years back, so it may have changed.

Yup that's why I don't read magazines much anymore. Kind of sad "NEW iPHONE NEWS!" Then reading it and realizing you knew about it 2 weeks ago

You guys are all giving reasons why print media (newspapers & magazines) is in big trouble. A large chunk of ad revenue is heading towards the internet--can you say Google? Network TV is not far behind print media. Except for blockbuster shows like "24", "Lost", "American Idol" , "CSI" and a few others, people are watching cable TV (HBO, ESPN, TNT and other hot networks) and--you guessed it--video on the internet. Can you say Google? What's the first thing you turn on in the morning--your TV, your radio or your computer? Last thing you turn off at night?

I find that Macformat, an UK magazine is the best. Macworld is a close second.

If you're in the UK, then I can recommend iCreate. My favourite.

I just checked out the link I posted above. Check out the sample magazine. One of the best uses of Flash I've ever seen!

Very slick. How do you control the page size so that it's readable. The NAB 2007 site had a similiar eZine for the recent conference except that pages expanded after you clicked one.

Yeah, iCreate is quite expensive, but there are usually some great tutorials on the iLife and 'pro' applications. I've got a subscription to it here in the UK which saves me 40% off the cover price.

I picked up a MacFormat once and i thought it was really nice. They were quite expensive though, hard for a one year subscription. I think what you have to do is browse thru all of them then just buy the one that will be most useful to you.

    What's a magazine?

I can't recall the last time I picked one up, and when I last did to fill up idle time, it was all old news - into the trash it went. Welcome to the "right-now" age.

    For idle times content... iPod.
