Macbook Pro Superdrive Issue

Bought my Macbook Pro 11 months ago, and the problems with it have been fairly few. The battery inflated (as had been reported), and was replaced, and... hm.. think that's it.

Anyway, I have been watching movies via DVD regularly on it since I purchased the thing, and have never had a problem.. however, I went to continue watching Season 1 of Rome, and upon inserting the disc, I noticed the drive was much louder than usual. All the clicks and load sounds were very pronounced.

When I tried watching an episode, it played but every 15 seconds I experience horrible frame rates for ~5 seconds and then it repeats again, all the while making strange "load" noises every 2 seconds or so.

I'll go ahead and try another dvd in a moment, but this box set is practically brand-new and the disc worked fine when last I watched it.

Anyone else have this or a similar problem before?

Sounds like a dirty or faulty disc, although superdrives are notoriously bad at reading even the most slightly damaged disc.

I spent a couple months ripping my collection of 1000+ CDs to my hard drive, and at the end there were about 50 or 60 that wouldn't go, even though i'm extremely careful with them. So, I dusted off my 9 year old Dell, and they all ripped fine, without any errors that I can hear...

Try playing another disc in you MBook and then try playing the DVD in a regular player, or on a PC...

My macbook is not even 90 days old yet and my Superdrive is already giving me issues. It refuses to read DVD+R DL discs that it burned using Toast. Once in a blue moon it'll read them but most of the time they get spit out. And I'm using Verbatims too. So far it can rip cds and burn movies in a compressed DVD-R but forget about DLs. I was told by an Apple Tech that when a optical drive starts to go it's the DL reading that goes first since it requires more precision. He tried something that would work if the cable was loose and told me to come back if it didn't. The dvds then played at the store but wouldn't you know it, failed again when I got home.

I'm taking my Macbook back to the Genius Bar after finals week to have it replaced.
