the squeaky vibrater...

My Mac Pro Tower makes this vibrating noise when my second 500 gig hdd spins up. It will keep making the noise until I move my tower a little bit, and it will stop for a few minutes. It has to do with something with my hdd, but I don't know what it could be. I opened up the tower (dirty as hell), and I started looking around, but I don't know what could be causing the problem. Any ideas? Also, what can I use to clean the inside of the tower? It was nasty in there.

Take a bucket of soapy water, and... okay, don't.

Shut off the power, unplug from wall. Open case, attach a static wrist strap to you and the computer, then use a can of compressed air to knock all the dust off and out. Preferably, do this outside.

As for the noise... could be just a loose screw on the drive mount letting it wobble a bit.

If you mount your drives onto foam gasket, it will reduce the noise. This is something I do anyway, and also do for fans.

Foam gasket is available, cheap, at any hardware store.

    That's what backups are for.
