Need help with repair. Ship to apple or carry in to auth service?

I have an imac flat panel and had the motherboard successfully replaced last year by APPLE thru an authorized repair place (COMPUSA) which has since closed down in my area. It's the only authorized dealer around and with having 2 kids under 3, I would prefer to just ship it out to apple if they do this. Do I need to go to an authorized store to have them ship it out?

...I am having a power supply issue (computer shuts down instead of sleeps).

Should I just send my computer back to Apple? Does anyone have a link for how to do this the right way (ship it back to apple to be repaired).

Thanks!

I would call AppleCare and ask them about the issue. I've taken my laptop to the store for shipping and I've also had Apple send me a box. (What they do is send you a pre-labelled box and shipping materials. I got my box in 24 hours of making the call to Apple.) They had the box labelled to go to their nearest authorized repair center, Flextronics in Tennessee, not Apple main.

Ive had experience with both options recently with my girlfriends ibook. the ibook had been acting up and i took it into the local authorized retail/repair whatever, and they fixed it. well...sortof. it started acting up a little while later, and died completely a few days ago. so she called apple, they sent her a box yesterday, and today they told her that they are sending her a new macbook.

so...thats just my experience, they will all be different.

i think that the most important thing is...buy applecare. it's worth it.

now...my 12 inch pbook has never given me a single problem in its 3.5 year life...
