Mac Pro Won't Sleep

10.4.9 on 160GB OEM
10.4.9 on 500GB Maxtor Maxline Pro
Ever since I updated from 10.4.7 (OEM) to 10.4.9, I've been dealing with one problem after another.
First, the entire database of my Entourage Identity disappeared, while my calendar, email and all other functions of Entourage remain in tact. Numerous interactions with Entourage forums and suggestions followed have proved unsuccessful.
Shortly therafter, the machine began taking a very long time (many minutes in some cases) to sleep.
I bought another HD (500GB Maxtor) and did a fresh install with all current updates. And still the machine won't sleep...!
Any ideas...?
