Macbook Performance Questions
I was thinking about getting a 1.83ghz Macbook Core 2 and was hoping it was adequate enough to run Final Cut Pro. I've read a few places here and there and know that the integrated graphics won't get me far but I don't have enough cash to throw down $1500 for a laptop. I know 'Colors' and other effects programs won't work but all I'm interested is the performance of Final Cut itself. I'll definitely be sporting 2GB of ram to round things off. Is it a good idea? Point me out in the right directions, with possible suggestions if otherwise. Thanks.
By the way, I won't game much on this computer, but has there been any success in decently running Call of Duty 2 with acceptable framerates (via bootcamp) with the Macbook?

Yes, it's fast enough for FCP. Motion won't work. I'm not sure about color though. I didn't read about it having a hardware accelerated rendering engine so you might get away with it. I use Shake on an Intel Mac Mini and it runs almost as well as on a quad G5. Intel software seems to be optimized better even in spite of PPC's Altivec.

Yes, with enough Ram it will perform just fine.

The bad news is that Call Of Duty 2 doesn't run at all on the Windows side. The good news is the Mac version runs ok. It should run adequately on medium settings. I tested out a few games under Bootcamp to give people an idea of what games they can run:

If you can, you might want to hang off for a product revision. Santa Rosa is coming on May 9th, about two weeks from now. This should mean product updates soon afterwards in all of Apple's laptop and consumer desktop lineup.

Thanks for the reply. Are you somewhat sure on that May 9th date? I will be leaving for a 5 week trip to Panama on the 12th so I want to make sure I can hopefully get one beforehand.

Lots of rumor sites are pointing to a May 9th release and it was already delayed, it was supposed to come in March. However, this is not the date of product updates, merely the avaiability of the chipset. I wouldn't expect new products until a week or so after so it's unlikely to be available in time for your trip, which is a bit unfortunate that it's so close.
