Newbie Disk Help

Hi to all, I am new to Apple, I just purchased a MacBook Pro and after several weeks of use I can't boot the drive. I attempted to run the disk utilities from the install disk but it came back with the following error messages "Invalid Node Structure" and "Volume Check Failed".

Based on what I have been reading in some of the forums Disk Warrior may be able to help me resolve the problem without having to reformat and reinstall the drive.

My problem is I only have a Windows XP machine in the house that I can use to download Disk Warrior onto, I can then burn a CD or DVD from the download but I don't know if the disk will be read on the MacBook Pro since it was burned on a Windows PC and now used on the Apple PC.

Can someone tell me if this will work, or what a "work around" might be.

Thanks very much.

Bill

Simplest and best solution? Take it to Apple, if possible, Such a new machine, unless you did anything to it (doubtful) should not be behaving this way. I would take it to your local Apple Store and let them take care of it. They generally do a good job, and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

Thanks, I would take it to the Apple store but Iam at my home in Brasil and I purchased when I was at my California home. The closest Apple store is 500 miles from here and I need to try and fix this ASAP. Any other suggestions?

Well, you should be able to have it shipped out and fixed under warranty, if I recall correctly.

Otherwise, I'd get a new 2.5" SATA drive, and replace the existing failing drive. You can use your install disks to reinstall the OS. Put the old drive in an external enclosure, and either use Diskwarrior on your other machine to verify the drive.

That way you retain use of your laptop, and provided you can fix the original drive, an external backup as well.
