Where can I find a free audio converter?

I do a lot of recording of marching band shows and other music from videos to audio to make CDs to listen to in my car, etc. I used to have Quicktime Pro to change the aif files that Simple sound records to mp3's, until Apple decided to make us pay $30 again to get the new quicktime pro. I guess I could downgrade to quicktime 4, but I'd like to find a free or really cheap program to do simple converting of file types. Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

I found that if you have both the quicktime 5 application and the quicktime 4 application, you can choose which one to run. You don't really need to uninstall QT5 to use QT4. Then you can launch QT4 and edit the file and your code will still work.

iTunes can convert AIF, WAV files into MP3s...Just drag/drop them into a new playlist in iTunes,(I have one called IMPORTS)select one or all and under Advanced/Convert to MP3s...in Preferences you can choose what quality you want.

SparkME X is a freeware program that I use for quick and dirty converts and editing. Very nice...
