Excel to PDF
I keep getting this error message when I try to convert an Excel spreadsheet to a PDF. When I click on file, print, save as PDF this box pops up. I'm running 10.4.9 on a MacBook Core Duo 2ghz 1 Gig RAM with Office 2004 11.3.5. Any ideas?
(I've tried all suggestions in the error message but nothing fixes it. I've done this hundreds of times in the past then out of the blue I got this message)

Did you acctually click the link? It's hosted on another forum where I'm getting no help so I've posted here for some assistance. The link is of a picture only, nothing else. Please hold off your accusations...
I am afraid that Mr. Me's accusations are justified since in order to see the picture you have to join the forum. Why post the picture that way when there are free services out there to share files, if making us join the forum is not your intention?

Appologies. I have changed it to my flickr account. I only used the link to the forum casue the pic was already there, it was easy. I had no intentions of making people join "my" forum.

OK, no problem. Unfortunately, I have never used the Mac verions of Office applications so I cannot really help. But what happens if instead of clicking on "Save As PDF" you click on "Preview" in the print dialog box?
Yes, I get that same error message.
Do you have some printer connected when you save to PDF? If so, try to disconnect it and save again to PDF.
No printer connected. It's odd because I've done this hundreds of times before a couple of times everyday, then all of a sudden it stopped...
Very strange. Does this happens only with Excel or with the other applications too?
It only does this with applications from Office 2004. All other apps with printing capabilities print fine.
It is an Excel issue then. This generally means that some file that Excel uses and that interacts with its printing capabilities has been corrupted. Unfortunately, apart the possible preference file you could find in ~/Library/Preferences, I don't know what else Excel would use to function. So, you can try to see if such a preference file exists and change its name by appending for example a .old extension. Then the next time you launch Excel, it will create a new pref file and you can try again to save as PDF.
But it may be something else too. So, as a last resort, you can create a new user account and repeat "the save as PDF" experiment from there. It should work. If it does not, well, I am running out of ideas at this moment.
I have Office 2004 and don't have a problem. I tried 3 different spead sheets, a 2, 6 and 15 pages. Saving as a PDF should not require a print to be hooked up.
Exactly. It's obviously just some problem in Office. Just have to wait till an update fixes it. Is there anywhere I can report this sort of bug to be fixed in the next office update?

Is there an unistaller of Office to try an uninstall/re-install? You may have better chances with that since it appears that it is not a user preference issue.

You can give this a try. There is also an Excel specific support link about known issues. Good luck.

Wow. Now tell me: as an Apple user, what does it feel like to get your head bitten off without warning by another Apple user?
