My first mac.
I'm thinking about getting a mac. I use to be a gamer, but now since, I play sports and I'm getting into a hobby that I love to do and that is film makeing, partly because I want to work with production companies, or even become a director myself. I see myself working on the mac more then I see myself working on these projects on the PC, mainly because of the programs you need to buy. I Might have to buy these programs on the mac too but they have at least some stuff that I can work with, unlike the pc where I can only get windows movie maker. I also just want a laptop, and I was wondering if the macbooks come with the same programs and such as the regular mac desktops. Also I still have no clue about the internet connection for the macbook, I have a cable modem and I have no clue how to connect to the internet with the macbook or what to buy for it. So whats a good macbook for a person whos an inspiring film maker.
Sorry for the long post and thanks alot.

... there's a lot more than windows movie maker for pc ... there's adobe premier which is like one of the top video editing softwares ever.
edit: and if you want a laptop for video editing get the 17 inch macbook pro and max out all the configurations and buy a bigger screen for it. And then get final cut for it.
I know theres more, but like I said I may buy some more programs later, but I think the imovies would be better. Also I'm not like super rich or anything, and I'm only a Freshman in highschool. So I'm not gonna make like huge projects atm. Anything thats less then that, would just a macbook be good enough. And also is the .Mac software worth the money?
The Macbook as it is now is quite complete. How do you say? It is the best
bang for buck even compared to "her" Windows brothers. Actually as far as i understand
you, even a 1-2 year old MB would make it entirely.

get the 2.0ghz macbook, and just to be safe get 2gb ram but 1gb would probably be fine. if you have the money though i suggest 2gb ram. why would you want a laptop for highschool? you're in grade 7?

I think you are on the right direction with a Mac. The latest MacBooks have been released. You may be able to get education pricing if you discuss with your teachers or your IT person -- you have to buy through your school.
Even at retail pricing, here's what I suggest:
$1,474.00
Specifications
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
120GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
You can start off with iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD, GarageBand, all inclusive with Mac OS X Tiger, all free with your MacBook purchase.
.Mac is good if you intend on publishing your blogs, podcasts of your projects, etc.
You can connect your cable modem to a "wireless router". This can be a Linksys, Belkin, or Apple Airport Extreme.

Suni, is it you?
About the topic at hand:
A full MacBook will do you well with iMovie. You can do great things with iMovie without killing your budget.
When you do get a little extra cash and want to expand your movie-making talents, you might want to look at the iMovie plug-ins from GeeThree. They are fantastic and you can add them as you get money and needs.
Another app you might want to look at for planning your movies is Frameforge3d, which allows you to plan your shots before getting all your actors and what not together on Friday after school. It isn't cheap ($179 academic), but it could save you a lot of time (aka: money) down the road.
If that is too far out of your budget for now, grab Google SketchUp for free and throw scenes together in it.
Happy filming!
BTW: Welcome to AI!
