Buy or Wait, I want people's opinions!

Like many of you out there, I was waiting for the new MacBook update and I have to ask in a seperate post:

Should all of us who were waiting buy now, or still wait?

The updates, although minor are an improvement to the MacBook series but they are so minor with no video card update (my personal hope), is it worth waiting until the next update, or should I wait a few months and go on to a third party web site to pick up a old version for a hell of allot less than the new version?

Choices are endless and all of you are my only Mac friends as everyone around me as I am sure you are aware haven't realized the brilliant simplicity of Apple products. Help a fellow Apple lover, and tell me what to do.

If I needed a Macbook, I'd probably get a used one off ebay or a refurb from Apple. I wouldn't pay top dollar for the Macbook with it's soon to be outdated 950 gma intergrated graphics. Certainly by this time next year the Macbooks will have the better Intel IG. My 2 cents.

As with all technology, buy it when you need it. No matter what updates come, it will be revised again a few months after you buy anyway.

That being said, I too was disappointed by today's updates, and I do have to buy in a month or so. Now I'm nearly forcing myself to consider a post-WWDC-update MacBook Pro. But chew on this: if the design of the MBP is overhauled, you would have to weigh the risk of a "rev 1.0" machine that may have its own quirks, minor or major, that would have to be addressed, as the MacBook did when it was redesigned.

I'm in the camp that believes if you're looking for dedicated graphics or bleeding-edge-new chips in the MacBook, you should already be considering the MacBook Pro. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult comparing the MacBooks to other entry-level-to-midrange PC notebooks.

But I digress. All things considered, I will most likely be buying one of these new MacBooks. I will not be very happy if they're updated again before the end of the year, especially since they went many months before getting this "stopgap" kind of update. The least Apple could have done was also drop each price by $100. C'mon!

I know I may have not helped much but, as I said, I will be buying one, and I hope you have some new information to consider.

I don't think they will be updated for a while now but who knows. I'm not sure exactly how quickly they can change to the new chipsets. I was really hoping for the update pre-Leopard because the extra graphics performance should help Core Animation. Assuming Leopard is out in September, I guess it's still possible for another revision but I'd probably just buy now.

I think the board should has a sticky "should I buy now, or later" thread. It seems like there is one person a week asking the same question, and getting the same answers back. If you need one now, buy now. You can sit and wait for the next best thing every time something comes out. Why don't you just wait till the 15 ghz, 1000GB ram, 4x5TB hdds, mac mini comes out with a 150" Super HD Cinema Display?

How much do you want to bet it'll still have integrated graphics?

It's true we get quite a few of these kind of threads but sometimes they have specific questions that need answered or just advice from people who buy Macs a lot and are perhaps more aware of Apple's crappy updating procedures so I don't see any harm. Repetitive threads keep the forum ticking over when there's no news and there still hasn't really been any big news for the past 8 months or so.

For real! When is that coming out! I'll bet it will come with OS XIV and will be a real screamer! I do think though that the Mac mini and the 150" Super HD Cinema Display can be had separately.

Kind of reminds one of the old PowerPC days. All I heard was that the Intel Macs would be different. Many more upgrades and many more options. Seems to be the "same old same old".

I ordered my new Mac Pro last night. I had been holding out, ever the optimist, for Leopard and any other goodies that might come with it. The news of the Leopard delay made me realize waiting wasn't an option ...

Simply put: I have reached the point where I really need the computer.

It doesn't help that my MacBook Pro needs to go back for some warranty work before the warranty expires, and it's my only computer at present. So in addition to my immediate need for the desktop, I also need something to use while the MBP is off in AppleLand. Looks like it'll be my juicy new Mac Pro - assuming they ship it somewhere near when they said they would.

As others have said - buy it when you need it.

But the feeling in the pit of my stomach is telling me that tremendous updates and price reductions will be announced in the coming days, now that I'm locked in...

Wouldn't it be 1024GB of RAM?

No, I just think I will bit the bullet and buy the wife one for when she gets back from a business meeting in Japan. She is my sugar momma, and I should treat her as such. Regret, here I come!

Buy if you need it. If not, suffer in silence.

Good advice. But where would this forum be without the whining and moaning?
