We know what it is, or do we?

Pure conjecture here, but notice the U shape of the clip that connects the monitor to the base of the iMac. I would believe that the ONLY reason this is necessary would be to make the monitor easy to reattach after disconnecting it. Also, the monitor looks a little bit "thick," and the length of the clip looks just short enough to be tucked away into the monitor if necessary.

I'm thinking detachable webpad here.

maybe the screen is detachable so you can use it as a frisbee device?

So explain why the monitor needs a rather large, protruding hook to attach it to the CPU.

    I guess we'll know in <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=000496&p=3"; target="_blank">less than 8 hours</a>.

I think if the monitor WAS a tablet, it would have to have USB ports on it and headphone, because then you could do work on your iMac and then take the tablet with you and connect it to a slick portable printer or whatever and easily print what you worked on(be it spreadsheets or word document or high scores for breakout)

I think that would be totally awesome, but I don't think that this new iMac does this...although if it did then that would definatly help it to live up to the hype

-Or an edge to grab when pivoting the display. Sorry, most likely explanation on that one.

    1) The large hook is for stability. You don't want someone banging the table it's on and your screen bounces everywhere.

    2) The large halo is for you to grab the display and swivel/raise/move it and not touch the LCD.
