Could this signal the beginning of the end of profits for Dell? Wal*Mart is notorious for their high-volume, low margin business model... one that has ruined lesser suppliers.

Aside from Proctor and Gamble, does any company really benefit from being Wal Marts bitch?

I'd like to see The Dell Dude show up on an Apple ad all beat to hell, limping. "I'm a Dell...."

I think this is more of a political move. Dell is trying to get back to #1, whatever the cost.

But yeah, they are straying from their core business again, which history has shown to be a regular source of losses for Dell.

I assume these Dells will be NASCAR-themed.

I understand the market punished Dell today, and does not support their venture into Wal-Mart's territory... I agree with the market.

    ZING!

Personally, I'll never buy a Dell from any source. The Navy has an exclusive Dell contract for the last several years, in my experience we've had nothing but trouble from them. Dead machines right out of the box, erratic NICs, etc. I don't know if it's because Dell just slaps the boxes for the Navy together from spare parts they have lying around the factories, or the ones where I worked were just unlucky.

On a positive note, at least Dell will be offering Ubuntu based PCs now. One small chip out of the WinDoze monopoly... \
