Cleaning Macs

I have a first gen Mac Mini which has been running quite slow recently and running a bit hotter and noisier than usual. Before I switched I used to often take my towers apart and vacuum or used compressed air to get the dust out and it would always run considerably faster and quiter. Should I do this with a Mac Mini as well? I've only taken it apart once a long time ago to upgrade the RAM and don't remember it being very dirty. Do Minis get as dirty and dusty inside as big PC towers do and is it advisable to clean it out?
