I need a new MBP, too. Let's just hope it's a good update. It'd be nice if Apple would use the Robson feature of Santa Rosa. It'd also be great if the GPU sees a substantial upgrade.

I'd like to see some mods to the case design. Maybe it could be latchless. Thinner lid? Lighter?

Please, let this be a good one.

Okay, so the stores will receive them Tuesday... Who says they have to sell them THAT DAY? I'd imagine if it is a significant upgrade to be unveiled at WWDC that they may have a training session or two for the staff to get familiar with it and its specs. Not to mention that they have to be stocked, labeled, barcoded, and all sorts of things like that. It takes a little time to get things squared away. Plus, who says that ALL the Apple stores are supposed to get them Tuesday? Perhaps the one who reported this is one of the first to get them. Apple, I would imagine, would want to be sure that ALL their stores get the new models in time for the announcement.

I doubt Apple will use Robson. OS X doesn't take forever to start up as it is... the wait is far less than most Windows machines, and totally bearable. Although, I do expect a GPU update, with a thinner lid, due to new LED screens on the 15".

The new MBPs may not use Robson but for other reasons. Having 1GB of flash onboard for quick caching would be mighty dandy for normal everyday usage beyond wake from sleep and restarts. Just flipping back and forth between Web pages would be a lot quicker, for instance.

There are two main reasons why Apple may choose to skip Robson this time: it isn't ready for prime time and the OS doesn't support it. Most PC makers are skipping Robson so Apple wouldn't be alone. For Apple, some change would have to be made to the OS to take advantage of flash caching. Maybe that'll be in Leopard so maybe Apple doesn't want to incorporate that into Tiger, that is unless it's in 10.4.10.

My Santa Rosa MacBook Pro wishlist:

    15-inch : 2.4GHz

    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    1440 x 900 pixels

    2GB memory

    1GB flash memory

    160GB hard drive

    8x double-layer SuperDrive

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

    graphics with 256MB SDRAM

    $2,499.00

    Other details:

    15.4" LED backlit display

    Mac OS X 10.4.10

    New latchless case

    Thinner, lighter design

    New keyboard

    Option for 512MB graphics memory

I'd like to see new hard drive options that include higher capacity 7200 rpm drives. Right now, there is no 7200 rpm option but Hitachi now has drives up to 250GB at 7200 rpm in the 2.5" form factor.

Oh, and one more thing: Max RAM at 4GB instead of 3GB.

(Please note: This is just my wishlist. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. It's just what I'd really like to see.)

    I'd buy that machine, lol...

Of course... I'm buying the new one anyway... but still. Doesn't sound like you're asking too much out of it, either. I'm not quite sure, though if they'll go right for a GPU with 512 MB... maybe on the higher 15" and 17". I kinda doubt at this point that they'd redo the keyboard, but stranger things have happened. I could also see them making a latchless case with the use of magnets, as in the MagSafe connector, but I'm not sure if they'd do that at this moment, but maybe. I'm also hoping for an HD with closer to 180-200 GB at 7200 RPMs, but we'll see.
