Mail in Leopard

I recently asked a question concerning forwarding addresses in mail. I currently have a forwarding address that for reasons of consistency I want to appear as the reply-to address in all my correspondence even though it will come from an actual email account.

The instructions state that: 'Part of the configuration facilities of most email clients will allow you to specify a From: address and Reply To: address of blah@unit.oxon.org (your Alumni email address). This will present a consistent email address image so that, regardless of your 'real' email address, your emails will appear to come from your Alumni email address and any replies to your emails will automatically be directed there as well. It is a straight forward process to accomplish this with Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express clients and many others.'

However, there are no such options currently in Mail, as far as I can see. Any idea if they will be in the future Leopard release? I'm about to move over to Entourage as a result.

In email accounts - the line Email Address is the "reply to" address.

Leopard is not yet available except to developers. But to your question, select the View > Reply-To Address Field. This will add a reply-to field to all of your outgoing messages until you disable it.

Thanks for this. Can I set a default reply-to field in there too? And is there a default 'From' option I can select too? And my Leopard question was to developers to see if that feature was built in.

Developers are under NDAs, and more than a couple have found out the hard way that Apple *is* starting to enforce them. So asking on here for one of them to answer publicly is almost certainly going to be met with silence. Just FYI.

We'll all find out in 8 days.

In email preferences - go to accounts - the line which reads - Email Address ***is*** the "reply to" address. (and the From address)

When setting up the account you can collect email from one server, send mail via another server. But the FROM (and REPLY TO) addresses come from this line.

That works with my other email account, but my .Mac account always changes itself back to my mac address in that field. Anyway around this problem? I can carry on as is if need be, would just be good to close the other account. Thanks again.
