US iPhone & European Sim

I am a apple-fan from Belgium-Europe and I have some practical questions regarding the upcoming iPhone.
Is it possible for me to buy an iPhone in the US (I go there on holiday) and use it in Belgium afterwards by just putting in my SIM? Or is the device SIM-locked and therefore only works with AT&T?
