Burning a DL image in iDVD on MBP

I've done some searches here and on Google, but I haven't come up with any solutions to the problem I'm having. Hopefully someone here can help - it would be greatly appreciated!

I've got a year old 2.0Ghz Core Duo Macbook Pro that came with the 4X single layer Superdrive. When I go into iDVD to make a project, I'm always limited to the 4.7 GB on a single layer disc. Even when I burn a disc image to my hard drive instead of a physical DVD, the project won't burn if it's over that 4.7 GB. What I want to do is save an 8.5 GB image in iDVD and then bring that file over to another computer (an old Windows machine that's collecting dust) that has a dual layer DVD drive and burn it using that. But it looks like the software on my MBP is preventing me from doing that.

Does anyone have a way I can unlock this capability in iDVD? It's really frustrating to be hindered by my single layer drive when I'm not even using that as my burning device. Thanks in advance for your help!
