iMac G3 problem

Tried to start my G3 iMac and got the folder with the flashing question mark screen. Can't hear the HD spinning. Tried to boot from the CD drive, but it only spins for a few seconds then stops. Tried to boot from an

external Firewire drive and received the following message:
