I just got an iphone and everything works great. I would like to set up the mail application on my macbook to check my new yahoo email account just like the phone does, but I keep getting a "cannot connect to server" message every time I try, but I can set it up to check my gmail account just fine. I am using the incoming server "imap.mail.yahoo.com". Is it just not possible for mail to check this account and I will just have to check it from my iphone?

Free IMAP service for Yahoo! Mail accounts has not yet been announced. Accessing it on your iPhone is probably one of the pluses of using it.

If you want that service on your PC, you'll need to pay Yahoo $19.99 per year. It's free on the iPhone though, that sucks.

-Sigh- It would be really nice if yahoo made that service free. I've had yahoo mail since 2000, and really that's the only thing I really want added.

If you don't mind using workaround POP access, you could give YPOPS! a try.

I am using an applet called "Mail Forward" from System Support Products, Inc.

    http://www.sspi-software.com/mailfwd_mac.html

I have 3 mailboxes at Hotmail and 1 at Yahoo. I can click Mail Forward (it can be scheduled also) and, in seconds, it picks up mail from each inbox and deposits it into my ISP which automatically forwards it to Mac Mail in my computer. It was one of the best investments I've made. Only one $15.00 payment and all upgrades are free. Further, any time I've had a question, I get an email answer back within hours, sometimes minutes. The tech at Mail Forward has ALWAYS been able to answer any question I've had. At times, Hotmail or Yahoo makes changes and I'll get a Mail Forward upgrade right away to cover the change.

Gmail has a feature that automatically sends Inbox mail directly to the ISP, so I don't need to have Mail Forward pick up mail there.

Yahoo has 2 separate systems. As far as I know, Mail Forward can only access one of them.

Homail has 3 sytems: the original, classic, and Windows Live Hotmail. As far as I know, Mail Forward only picks up the original and Windows Live Hotmail, but not classic.
