Requesting Clarification - Mac Pro.

Gentlemen, thank you in advance for reading this post.

First off, allow me to be frank and to the point, I'm still getting acquainted with Apple, and as such I don't have the knowledge regarding them as I do the PC counterparts. I usually went to my Uncle for information and tutoring in Apple, as he was a life-long enthusiast, but he recently passed away, leaving me with no real firm source for Q and A. He had sold me one of his Mac Mini's previously when I became interested in OS X vs Windows (and believe me, my wish to use Windows died that day), and I've been attempting to 'move camps' as it were from the PC to Apple.

I finally had the money saved up after a year of saving to buy myself a Mac Pro, which is in shipment, much to my impatience. However, the question that I am here to ask today was clarification regarding the Mac Pro and its use of SLI inside of OS X. I have, of course, attempted to bounce about the internet in a quest to find the answer myself, but I get too many poorly written statements and conflicting facts.

I loathe to use Windows on an Apple, but I do have my share of games that I like to play, so before I go and buy a pair of SLI cards, I wanted to see what was what, as it were.

Thank you in advance for your patience and your reply, if you choose to post one.

Welcome to the forums! We had a long discussion here on AI some time ago, and as far as I remember, SLI on the MacPro is not working reliably. Also remember that the MacPro is a full XEON workstation and has an Intel server mainboard in it. It's not built for gaming...

    see http://forums.appleinsider.com/showt...threadid=66134

--> it might work under WinXP ONLY (in BootCamp), but you'll run into boot problems in OS X because of the graphics card.

Thank you very much for the clarification. I still can't wait to get my Mac Pro, just a matter of time. Thank you once again!

Treise - what configuration of the Mac Pro did you go for and what are you intending to use it for?

We seem to be on the same track in terms of migration from PC to Mac, although I'm a few stops behind you on the line
