Resolution Independence and MPB's

I’m trying to decide between the 15” MBP and the 17” HiRes. I’ve considered all the pros and cons of each and how they will or will not fit with my needs. But I was wondering about resolution independence and what it will mean for each of these displays. I’ve not seen any threads addressing this so maybe it’s a daft question.

Will RI make any difference to the current advantage that the 15” has in legibility vs the advantage that the 17” has in screen real estate? (I’m ignoring the LED factor which will come to the 17” long after I’ve purchased a MBP, as it’s the resolution issue I’m trying to make sense of). In other words, will Leopard introduce anything new into this equation?

It should mean the interface is clear no matter what display you get. I would suggest the 15" in all cases. If you need more space, get a huge desktop display. For the price difference ($1000), you'd be able to get a very nice one.
