Apple iPod Socks vs. 3rd party cases

I am thinking of getting Apple iPod Socks to protect iPhone and few other devices (e.g., iPod, other phone, digital camera). Good idea or do you have something that works better? Ideally something that looks decent without exuding IT geek factor (no offense to IT gods)?
