iphone prepaid from at&t store

The nearest apple store is 175 miles away, so I have to go to the at&t store, and I want to know if you fail the credit check in the store, will they still sell it to you? also, I already have an account, so will I get to keep my prepaid account without a credit check and without "upgrading"? thank you
