Hi everyone,

I'm in the market for a wireless mouse. I know zilch about it so I'm looking for a little advice. Mice people like, ones they hate, etc.

I'd be interested in a wireless mighty mouse if the scroll ball wasn't so, so horrible. I don't need something super complicated. Just 3, maybe 4 buttons with a scroll wheel, and one that can be used in either hand.

I used the logitech s500 (or 505 or something) mouse for a while and recently went back to the mighty mouse.

I don't know why people complain about the scroll ball, I haven't had a single problem with it.

My problem is that it just eventually gets crap in it (I have a wired mighty mouse that came with my iMac). I was able to keep it clean for a while, but it started to slowly loose functions. The only thing my scroll ball does now is scroll down. No scrolling up, no scrolling to the side, no click.

    I really liked the S530 set from logitech ... http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke...s/158&cl=us,en .

The only problem I had was some conflict with the preference pane. If I change the USB port of the keyboard / mouse it would reset the button assignment. Then after each time I changed a button to keystrokes it would quit. So to set the five custom buttons I had set it would take five openings of the preference pane.

Flounder, do you want a mouse with regular batteries or one with a charging cradle, or does it matter?

Ambidextrous and wireless cuts down on choices very effectively. As always, I recommend Logitech and Microsoft (Razer isn't a choice now because they don't make anything wireless). You'll end up with a pool of less than 10 mice. Easy to take a brief look at reviews. It would be a good idea to pay a visit to a good store where you can see their size in practice. Some wireless are just too small because they're designed as a laptop peripheral for infrequent use.

The mouse isn't symmetric as requested. I tried the keyboard at a store and thought the key feel was poor compared to almost anything.

First of all, what computer will you be using it on? If it's the Intel iMac from your profile, your options are bluetooth or something else such as RF wireless or infrared transmission. If you go for bluetooth, your options are fairly limited. Pretty much the mighty mouse and a few others like the logitech v270 (do a google product search for more). The V270 is nice for portability, but for a desktop mouse it may be a little small. I have never tried any others so I can't give any real advice.

If you go with another type, logitech has some really nice mice (if you are willing to pay more) and I have almost never heard a bad thing about the mice themselves. The LX7 looks pretty good. Of course you should not buy directly from them as you can get them much cheaper on eBay, newegg, or a similar site. Otherwise M$, although I hate to say it, has some decent ones which you can check out too.

You may want to look here for some more suggestions, but mice are usually more of a personal preference so go to a staples or best buy and try some out and then go online to buy.

Ha, didn't even realize that was a choice!

It probably doesn't matter. Perhaps batteries though. I'll be starting law school part-time at the end of August. I just ordered a MBP yesterday and I'll be selling my iMac to my mother.

Thanks for the links and suggestions everyone; it's been very helpful! Hopefully I'll get a chance this weekend or next to go check things out in person, but this has been a great start.
