I just upgraded my Adobe reader and it took over the reading of pdf files in Safari. How can I reset the situation to get back using Safari (without the download) for such files.
With Adobe, pdf files start littering the desktop.
I am grateful for this forum!

I expect there is a preference somewhere inside Adobe Reader that lets you change this, but considering they have about a dozen different pref screens, finding it might be easier said than done.
You could try using a tool like OnyX which can configure the following setting:
Another option would be to try setting Preview.app as the default viewer for downloaded PDFs. Choose File > Get Info on a downloaded PDF. Then change "Opens with:" to Preview and click on "Change all..."
