Hard Drive Space Discrepancy
Hey Folks,
FIrst post here - need some help.
I have an Imac with a 500 GB hard drive. My Account takes up 157.43 GB. I have looked at all the folder outside of my account. They are:
Applications: 8 Gb
Library: 12.27 Gb
System: 2.28 Gb
And a few others which don't add upto much.
Here is the problem. My Hard drive reports a capacity of 465.44 GB, yet it says that 397.7 GB is being used up.
I crunched some numbers here. With my account + Applications folder + Library + System it all adds upto:
180 GB. So I'm being short changed 217GB! What gives?
I had Vista installed - but I recently set my hard drive back to a single partition through bootcamp - effectively deleting it.
So any ideas? Any utilities I can use to look into it? I verified Disk permissions in Disk Utility. Other than that I haven't been able to figure anything out.

This will list your entire filesystem by size and tell you what's using the most space. Click your drive when it opens and let it run right through.
