The battery button is just an X and where are these green lights on the button you are talking about. This is a new mac book just a few months old. I'm a former PC user who defected The only greenlight is with the powercord right where it plugs in. This damn filmware thing pops up every time it boots saying no hardware to update. One of the updates was a battery update and since then it won't take a charge and just shuts down if it gets unplugged. Very disturbing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
the firmware update is for the superdrive, not your battery problem and is easily solved. it doesn't remove itself from your logon applications, stupidly, so go into account in system preferences and remove firmware update from the login items tab
as for the battery, are you sure it's properly locked into position?

It was in place and locked in for months and then stopped once that update took place. A battery update 1.2

If you turn the Macbook over and look at the battery, there is a big grey button. Near it are little dots. When you press the button, the dots should light up to tell you how much charge is in the battery.
Since you are getting an X symbol, it's likely you are yet another person suffering from the problem that affecting loads of Macbook owners. I knew two people who had this issue and one of them has had the problem a second time so 3 failed batteries out of the two Macbook owners I know.

I just did a common Filmware battery update and now my computer shows no charge and ONLY runs when plugged in. Can anyone help me here?

Does the battery show an X symbol or is it just at no charge? Also, when you press the button on the actual battery, do any of the green lights show?

If not, you will have to contact Apple who will send you out a replacement battery and you just send back your old one.
