MacBooks
I have an entry level, original MacBook and the hard drive is rapidly filling up. I'm considering replacing the HD but wonder whether the cost in comparison to upgrading the machine on the student discount might be worth it for the added features. I've seen some mention of a further MacBook upgrade. Do we have any idea as to wha we'll get and when? It's only been updated comparatively recently has it not? I also have an iMac and wonder whether *if* the new super-sleek new notebook comes out it might be more suitable for my needs - ie. taking to the British Library and university on the tube. Are we looking at Mac Expo Paris for any such announcement?
I know the usual mantra - want it now, buy it now - but I don't need the extra space yet so I'm intrigued as to what I may get from the wait.

As for the HD, you have a 60 GB? Definitely upgrade. I was unsatisfied with 80 GB in my PowerBook, so I dropped a new 160 GB drive in it.
out of interest, what kind of drives are required?
the ability to upgrade the hard-drives (easily) is great. i got the 2.0ghz/80gb model for a bargain price and know i'll be able to upgrade the hd sometime if i wish.

2.5" Serial-ATA drives.
Eh, I wouldn't hold my breath on any new MacBooks this year. I would guess January is when we'll see new laptops.

In that case, what would I get (besides the bigger HD) if I upgraded now to one of the new MacBooks. I know I'd move from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo but what else. And is that leap in processor going to be noticeable come Leopard?

Eh, the Core Duo to Core 2 Duo jump won't be very noticable, unless perhaps you go from a 1.83GHz Core to a 2.16GHz Core 2.
Other than that, the biggest gain is reliability. The Core Duo MacBooks (first revision) had some issues, like the random shutdown, the dead batteries, the discoloring palmrests. The Core 2's don't have those issues nearly as much, if at all.
So that you can use both one that you have and the xternal one as well. Extra benefit is that you could easily swap data between computers. Just a though...
if it is only the harddrive that you want to upgrade why not getting an external one?

Yeah, but there's nothing like a big-ass internal drive on a laptop. 160 GB on the move... *shudders with glee*
or maybe not...
