Installing iLife...deletes older "ilife"?

By installing iLife, does it automatically delete the old itunes, idvd, imovie, iphoto? I was wondering what happens, b/c I already have itunes 3, and was wondering if I should make a backup of all the songs on the computer, if when I install the new iLife, they will get erased.

The older applications will just be replaced. But you don't have to worry about your songs because they are stored in a seperate folder. All your preferences regarding these applications are stored in the Preferences directory, and not in the application folder. So after installing them, your preferences should just stay the same as they were. However, I heard that with the new version of iPhoto you have to import your libraries back into iPhoto, but your files won't be deleted, they might just not be 'seen' by the program. If that's the case you just have to reimport them. With iTunes it will just install and look for your songs where it did before.

Your files (especially movies) will not be deleted during installation of iLife, but there is a chance and there are reports that they might be deleted as soon as you open them with iMovie 3!

So: BE CAREFULL AND BACKUP FIRST!

I was working on a 60 minute movie Project in imovie 2 and upgraded to 3 in the middle of the edit. The old project loaded fine but when I made a DVD on Saturday about 20 of my edits had one frame of a unrelated image at the edit point and 2 edits didn't happen at all. This has not happened with any of my other iDVD2 burns ( about 15 projects). Also on your desktop or in a folder you may see a iDVD project icon which if you toss in the trash ( Like I did) you will lose your imovie EDLs!!! and the project will not open in imovie( But the DV files are still in the project folder and you have to rebuild everything from scratch by dragging them back into the project) I think this is because this New file is to link them together for the Chapter marker/DVD thing but I found if you throw this icon out for the DVD your Imovie project will not open again. This didn't happen when you tossed out a old iDVD 2 project. The old imovie project worked fine. Also I really haven't seen much of a render time savings by having the edit render in the background without asking it to...I liked the control of the old way on this item...anyway I just put ilife in on thursday so I'm still finding my way around it... Fun...not.
