Mail deleting emails without authorization?

Does Mail automatically delete emails after a certain point? My boss swears that he can't find emails he received a few weeks ago and even I couldn't find them after searching using the search and Spotlight tools.

He has a lot of emails sitting in his Mail application (over 5,000) and is convinced that Mail is deleting stuff to make room for incoming messages. I don't believe it because the application would erase older stuff, not never ones, right?

Does anyone have an insight that I'm missing? Hope so.

Thanks very much!

Ashley

Not unless it has been told to. Mail can't make decisions like that. Is there any pattern to the missing emails? Date, size, sender, etc.?

Sherman: It's more that he's noticing emails missing than certain ones being deleted. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. thanks!
