fetchmail,pine and Mail.app
I have been using
Pine forever, so I got it going along with fetchmail on my imac, using
configurations from my old linux box that almost work out of the box.
However... when I first booted up my imac, I wanted to check out the built-in
mail.app to see if if I liked it. I set up my mail acct on it, and it worked
right out of the box. But I decided I wanted to stick with pine, so I
deleted the one email account I had created in mail.app, and moved on.
However, even though I had moved on, aparently mail.app had not... it seemed
fetchmail was getting tripped up because my email address was still "in use:"
fetchmail: starting fetchmail 6.1.2 daemon
bind: Address already in use
channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 12345
Could not request local forwarding.
fetchmail: 37 messages for name@server.com at localhost (231373 octets).
fetchmail: reading message name@server.com@localhost:1 of 37 (2157 octets) fetchmail: SMTP connect to localhost failed
fetchmail: SMTP transaction error while fetching from mail.server.com
fetchmail: Query status=10 (SMTP)
fetchmail: sleeping at Thu, 06 Feb 2003 11:38:27 -0700 (MST)
That's funny, I thought... the only thing I could think of was that mail.app
had someone not relinquished control of my email address, so I opened mail.app,
and sure enough, the first thing it did was spring to life, somehow re-creating
my deleted email acct, and checking my mail, as though I had never deleted the
acct in the first place!! I deleted it again, quit mail.app, restarted the
machine even, but then when I launched it again, it recreated the account as
though I never deleted it, and does that every single time.
Any idea what could be going on?
