iMovie importing question

in Mac Software edited January 2014
i just used iShowU to record something and i'd like to edit it just slightly

theres some stuff at the beginning i'd like to remove and i want to add a title to the movie too.

my problem comes in when i try and import the video. it makes it into a wide screen film. meaning i've lost the bottom and top regions of my film.

the film shot with iShowU is not in any kind of wide screen, its an odd shape. is it possible to edit non-wide screen stuff in iMovie without losing parts of the video?

also - whats good screencasting software for the mac. to add labels, ect to a video.

Which version of iMovie are you using? In iMovie '06, there is a preferences check box under "importing" for "automatic pillar boxing and letter boxing for dv, which may or may not work with the footage you are trying to import.

Not sure if that's still there in iMovie '08, but '06 is a free download.
