software to move stuff from 1 mac to another?
here's a question...does anyone know of some OSX friendly software for moving mail, prefs, apps, licenses, etc from one mac to another? sure...i could do this manually...but i'd hate to go to the trouble only to find an app that would do it all for me. any ideas?

Great program that does exactly what you want. Enjoy!
I've been looking for the same thing - just moves the Users folder and all the special extensions, global prefs, fonts, etc.. - i.e. everything that's NOT part of the system that gets installed.
<strong>Not exactly. What if you are moving from one machine to another where the system doesn't match JUST right?

You can select the folders you want to move and it does all the permissions work and stuff for you. AFAIK, what you want may be a little more complicated, but there is some syncing feature (that I haven't used) that may be able to do what you want. Something like not changing anything except what needs to be changed. Anyone else have any ideas?
i know detto makes Move2mac for PC folks...i'm surprised they don't make mac2mac for the rest of us...

They don't make it because there wouldn't be a market for it. It's so stupendously easy to move from one mac to another. You can go the full clone route, or just move your home folder and reinstall software. It's really a breeze. When I got my new mini, it took me all of 20 minutes to put it in firewire disk mode, move my stuff and be done with it. ("Why 20 minutes?", you ask. Well, about 10 of it was clearing off enough junk from my table to get two computers set up.)
And we also have neato shareware like CCC that does a more than acceptable job.
All I need do in future is sync the Users folder (haven't done it yet, but I've installed the extra software that makes it work) and I can take my home machine out on the road. Lovely stuff.
