how to delete package contents

hi All,
a very newbie Q, but here it goes:
to downsize install packages, i want to
delete some language files, but they are
read only, even with su i cannot delete
them (or do a chmod).
any hints on this, for i know it can be
done.

1) Don't touch the installer packages. Really. You'd have to modify the installer scripts as well, and I really don't think you want to go there.
2) After you install an app you can eliminate the various extra language resources. <a href="
http://versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=18401&db=mac"
; target="_blank">LanguageStripper</a> will do the job for you.
