AirPort Extreme 802.11n 1GB ethernet vs earlier model
I tried this question over on Current Hardware, but got nary a nibble. It is a real question:
I have an original APE ...n I planned to set up on a home (apartment) network but have been holding off until all my macs had the n cards. Now that has happened, and there will be 4 machines on the net. Is there any good reason to go up to the 1GB Wireless Base Station. My connection is via Roadrunner (and they have never been a Mac friendly-- or WiFi friendly for that matter--outfit), so I can expect no help from them. Any suggestions? I plan to make a new iMac 24" the set-up machine.

3rd party wireless routers are cheaper and not much more difficult to set up than Airport Extreme Base Stations if you want 802.11n but not bothered about the USB port.
Your Internet is unlikely to be more than 10Mbps wherever you are. Even 802.11b (11Mbps) could handle that so if you main use is Internet Sharing then the AEBS (54Mbps) is more than sufficient. If you regularly share large files between the Macs then moving to the AEBS(802.11n) (248Mbps) could suit you. The possibility of connecting a shared USB hard drive and/or USB printer to the AEBS(802.11n) might also appeal.

Thank you very much for your trouble MrTotes. Much appreciated.
