I plugged an Ethernet cable from my mac pros 2nd Ethernet port into my pcs Ethernet port and set up my pc for file sharing but the pc wont detect the mac as being on the network or even being any sort of device. What should I do. I tried Reading a few walkthroughs but they were intensely confusing as Im new to the mac thing.

You are going to have to assign IP addresses to both of those interfaces (Mac-to-Mac would figure that out, but when a PC is involved it doesn't know how to do that). Otherwise they will not know how to talk.

I dont know how to do that....the most ive done with ip adresses is basic port forwarding. My pc picks up my mac but my mac doesnt pick up my pc. -___-

Did you turn off your PC firewalls? I've tried this setup and the same thing happened - the PC saw the Mac but not the other way round and turning off the firewall sorted it out. You can check easily by setting up a ping in the terminal or using the Network Utility program in the utilities folder. Just get your PC IP and try various things on the PC then ping it after each attempt.

For windows try "guest" without any password.
