I've accidentally deleted all of my X509 Anchors certificates. Now everywhere I go on the internet, I'm told I need a certificate, including one of my POP mail accounts.

How do I fix this?

Thanks. I feel like an idiot... so any gentle encouragement will be greatly appreciated.

I reinstalled the OS (Archive & Install) and certificates were fixed. First I tried using Pacifist to take just the keychains folder and put it where it belongs... to no avail.

In the process of deleting my anchor certificates, somehow my internal iSight camera stopped functioning (read: not recognized or "being used by another application"). After an install of the OS, I reset the PRAM (took the battery out when powered down, held the power button for 5 secs, replaced the battery and rebooted) and it worked properly again.

Glad to be back onboard anyway.

Sorry, that would be the PMU (power management unit) and not the PRAM (reset by holding Option,,P, and R at boot)

Ah, yes. Well, that worked. I'm so thankful for forums like these - they're like a big giant supportive net for whenever you make dumb moves like mine last night.

    I'm up and running again.

Hey, while I'm here: what do I need to be careful about with the old System folder that was archived? Can I just delete it (it's like 11 GB) or will that be another dumb move? As far as I know, I never made any modifications to it during the 2 days I had the computer before reinstalling the OS.

    Thanks,

    Peter

That's fine to delete it. The system folder should hardly ever be modified by the user so there are no settings stored in there.

Did you delete the certificates from the Keychain Access app or manually from the system folder?

I deleted the anchor certificates from within the keychain app.
